It has been described as Auckland's best-kept garden secret. Eden Garden boasts the largest and most varied collection of camellias in New Zealand; a large number of vireya rhododendrons, rhododendrons and azaleas, a host of bromeliads, some magnificent hibiscus and a wide collection of New Zealand native plants, making this an important and interesting garden for the plants alone.
We have 2 qualified gardeners, working daily to maintain the garden to a high standard.
The gardeners are kept very busy throughout the year with planting, property maintenance, pest control and garden planning. There are also a number of one-off projects, such as planting Tulip bulbs for our Tulip display (which takes place in the Spring - late August). After Tulip time, the perennial garden is planted for a wonderful vibrant summer display. Autumn is the time for planting new and replacement trees and shrubs and planning for new garden projects.
We also have a team of garden volunteers who meet on Monday and Tuesday mornings. The volunteers work in teams on a variety of seasonal tasks such as deadheading, grooming and weeding as well as general garden maintenance.
If you have gardening knowledge and experience and would like to join our gardening volunteer team on Monday and Tuesday mornings, please ask for an application form.
