THE LAND GARDENERS ANNOUNCED AS HEADLINE SPEAKERS AT THIS YEAR’S
PREMIER GARDEN EVENT

NZ’s Premier Garden Event, Rapaura Springs Garden Marlborough, has announced that UK-
based The Land Gardeners will headline a stellar line up of presenters at this year’s festival.

Designing productive and beautiful gardens, the Land Gardeners (Bridget Elworthy and
Henrietta Courtauld) have restored walled and historic gardens in England, France, Italy,
New Zealand and Zimbabwe, as well as growing organic English flowers, delivering buckets
of blooms to select London florists.

After meeting in London, Bridget and Henrietta each trained in garden design: Henrietta at
the Inchbald School of Design, and Bridget at the Oxford College of Garden Design.
Henrietta went on to work with high-profile garden designer Tom Stuart-Smith. In her native
New Zealand, Bridget grew cut flowers at Craigmore, the South Canterbury property where
her husband grew up, and where the family still has a home. It was in New Zealand that
Bridget started investigating soil health, learning much from Kay Baxter at Koanga Institute.
The Land Gardeners continue to implement many of these ideas in their work back in the
UK, and the ‘Farm Project’ was launched in 2018, creating high quality microbially rich
compost on a large scale, and educating and enabling other farmers and growers to do the
same.

The Land Gardeners will present two lectures at this year’s Rapaura Springs Garden
Marlborough. On Friday night Bridget and Henrietta will give a talk exploring their work in
the UK and around the world, including how they developed the gardens at Wardington
Manor. And on Sunday morning they will give an insight on the seasonal cut flowers they
grow throughout the year, discussing their work on climate composting and improving plant
and soil health.

The buzz around The Land Gardeners’ has already started and with tickets now on sale,
make sure you don’t miss out! Rapaura Springs Garden Marlborough runs from 7-10
November. Tickets now on sale at www.gardenmarlborough.co.nz
